Mexico: Cenote Habiku & Chichen Itza.

It's only been one week since we've returned from Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and I am already trying to justify another week long trip somewhere. Seven days was just enough time to relax at the resort but still get out and have some adventures. We actually went out and adventured four days out of the seven. That is one thing I love about this relationship. We both have a pretty strong urge to see the world. While we loved floating in the pool with unlimited beverages exploring Mexico was definitely the priority. In seven days we took close to seven hundred pictures. I wanted to remember every detail but I think I was able to condense them down a bit. We'll be sharing them by the tours we went on and some of the good food we ate. To kick it off is our first tour to the Yucatan Peninsula. It was an all day trip that included a stop a cenote Habiku and then the city of Chichen Itza.

The first stop was to the cenote. A cenote is a sinkhole that exposes water underground. The water is thicker due to the extra calcium levels from the limestone formations surrounding it. We had free time to swim around and once you got adjusted to the cold temperature of the water it was pretty nice! We swam around for about a half an hour and them headed to see the Mayan ruins!

Seeing the ancient ruins in person were incredible. Chichen Itza is one of the new seven wonders of the world. As we walked around our guide gave us little bits of history. Between taking pictures I believe I heard something about decapitating people, kicking them off the side of the building, and then tossing them into another building filled with other dead bodies. How's that for making you thankful for the century you were born in?

One of the unintentional entertainment sources were the vendors. All pushing the same wares and insisting their prices were the lowest. The one thing I did love about walking past all of them thought was gazing at the beautiful blouses and seeing some of the pieces being made by hand.

It was an extremely fun-filled day. By the time we got back to the resort we were beat and passed out right away. The next morning we slept in and headed to our next adventure that afternoon, ATV's! See you back here Monday!
